Divya Bhatia’s 2015 Bharatnatyam, Indian Dance Arangetram

Divya’s arangetram training culminated on the evening of November 28th, 2015 in Encinitas, California, near San Diego. She was accompanied by a plethora of musicians from India and the US. Her grace and joy of dance expressed in her every move. It was a lot of fun working with her and the Swapanthi family.

Divya is a student of the Swapanthi Dance Academy, founded in 2007 in Encinitas, California by Artistic Director and Bharatnatyam Dancer Aparna Sundaram.

The Indian Dance Arangetram (or Rangapravesh) is the debut graduation performance. In the literal sense it means “Ascending the Stage” and is a big step in the career of the Indian performing arts student. Once the student performs their Arangetram they are part of a senior group dancers within the school or academy.

The arangetram experience builds upon years of classical art learning into a deeper understanding of the meaning and culture behind the art form.

Bharatnatyam is one of the classical dances of India, originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the most popular Indian Dance forms and is a key art form practiced by many around the world.
